Cristina is a dance artist who was born in Malta and is a first-generation Italian immigrant to Canada; she currently lives and works on the unceded territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mes(Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, also known as Vancouver.
With over twenty years of experience as a dance educator and artist, Cristina has been given many opportunities to participate in numerous exciting projects with a career that has taken her around the globe. Some highlights include the International Dance Seminar in Brazil, choreographing for Yarita Yu Youth Ballet Company in Tokyo, Dancing on the Edge, touring Japan with OURO Collective, Lululemon x Team Canada 2022 Winter Olympic campaign, Vancouver International Dance Festival, CypheFest International Dance Festival (Yukon), Guelph Dance Festival (Ontario), Seattle International Dance Festival (US), and Avant Garde Dance (UK).
Cristina has danced works by Tentacle Tribe, Alexandra Spiceya Landé RubberLegz, Liz Tookey, Heather Laura Gray, Vee Ms Vee (Val Ho), and has worked on film and TV projects, such as Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Riverdale, CBC Arts, Lululemon, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and recently choreographed a new work for a contemporary company, Lamondance. In 2019 she received the choreography award at the New York Youth America Grand Prix Finals alongside choreographic partner Maiko Miyauchi, who have also worked on projects for CBC, Jayda G, Destroyer, and JJ Adrian.
Cristina is currently acting as the Managing/Co-Artistic Director of OURO Collective, formed in 2014 to advance the public’s appreciation of street dance culture, amalgamates hip-hop, waacking, breaking, popping, and contemporary dance techniques to create performances, events and workshops that explore the full range of possibilities and identities the group represents. Cristina also works as a registered holistic nutritionist, presenting her “Nutrition for Dancers” seminars to dancers of all ages, teaches/coaches for Champs International Skating Centre of BC, helps run the community centre, Bridge and Enrich and acts as a mentor to various artists in Vancouver, Canada.
